Tourist season is over and Orchard Hollow is as peaceful as ever. Piper Addison, the town witch and cafe owner, finally gets to kick back her sneakers and relax. The weather is glorious, her dusty love life has been resurrected, and she’s all caught up on binge watching shows. Nothing can be better!

Piper promised her ghost familiar she’d help find out what landed her in the land of the non-living.

Between figuring out the mystery of Stella’s demise, battling a raccoon for cookies, and tracing her mom’s steps hoping to reunite with a father she never met; Piper has her hands full. And this time, even her strange magic might not be enough to get her out of this bind.

Just when things were settling down, coffeehouse owner
and resident witch, Piper Addison, draws the attention of a killer!
Killing Grounds is the third book in author A.N. Sage’s
delightful paranormal cozy mystery series, the Orchard Hollow Mysteries,
and it features one of my favorite characters, Piper Addison’s ghostly
familiar, Stella! When things settle down, Piper follows through on her promise
to Stella to discover how she met her demise.
While Piper continues to learn about her unusual abilities
and try to find a happy medium for both she and the raccoon, Harry Houdini, who
has completely taken over Bean Me Up, she finally takes on the task of
finding out for Stella (who has amnesia) what happened to cause her death. The resulting
situations she finds herself in, dialogue, and especially Piper’s ongoing inner
monologue kept me smiling. The relationship with bookstore owner (and vampire)
Joe Brooks is S L O W L Y progressing but we’re not there yet. It’s a perfect
example of what that old Heinz catsup commercial was touting: Anticipation!
(Good Lord, those commercials are almost 50 years old!?!)
I have enjoyed this series so much.
I recommend KILLING GRINDS to fans of the previous books in
the series; however, this one could probably be enjoyed by paranormal cozy mystery
readers as a standalone (but you’d be missing out on some really good entertainment.)
