ENJOY AN EXCERPT:
My two Highland Christmas books, Thistle in the Mistletoe and Highlander’s
Holly & Ivy, were both born from a single inspiration: tradition.
The ones we inherit, the ones we fight to keep, and the ones we rebuild when
life shifts beneath our feet.
Thistle in the Mistletoe began with two side characters from Stone of Love whose quiet
connection lingered with me long after the last page—Roderick MacDougall and
Mary Comyn. I kept imagining their winter in the Highlands: the candlelit
feasts, the clan rituals, and the everyday comforts that become anchors in hard
times. Their simple morning ritual of sharing carrot cake became the emotional
heartbeat of their story. That one tradition carried their romance through
comfort, tenderness, and eventually heartbreak. Heritage preserved—that’s the
soul of their book.
Highlander’s Holly & Ivy came from a completely different spark: a tiny wedding announcement
buried in an old Scottish newspaper about a Highland solicitor marrying an
“English rose.” That little historical detail ignited Alex MacDougall and Iris
Erskine’s story. Set in the years after Culloden, when Scotland was forever
changed, their romance explores something deeper—which traditions survive
upheaval, which must evolve, and how love can create brand-new ones. Their
bond, like the holly and the ivy, is evergreen even in the harshest season.
Both books remind me why I love writing Christmas romances. Traditions
aren’t just rituals—they’re stories. They connect us, they comfort us, and they
shape who we love and who we become. Whether it’s a shared slice of carrot cake
or the resilience of winter greenery, these small moments are what make holiday
stories feel timeless.
