Read an excerpt:
Echo From a Bayou by author J. Luke Bennecke grabbed my attention from the start, and I did not want to put this book down until the story was completely told. I was simultaneously creeped out by the supernatural elements while glued to its pages, rooting for the main character.
The story is told through multiple points of view: John
Bastian, the sympathetic protagonist; Jack Bachman, his link to the past; and
Scott Jones, Jack’s best friend. Each viewpoint wrested an immediate and unique
emotional reaction that compelled me to get to the bottom of what was going on.
John is joined in his search for answers by his best friend, Kevin, and I
couldn’t help picturing actor/comedian Kevin Hart in this role. With such
evocative responses to the characters and the settings, this would make an
absolutely spellbinding film.
Besides well-defined characters and an intriguing plot, the descriptions of the settings for the events in the book, especially New Orleans Bourbon Street and the swamps and bayous, made these places come to life. These locations were easy to visualize, and I felt like I was seeing them myself (much like John was reliving Jack’s experiences, perhaps.) These atmospheric settings enhanced the constant feeling of foreboding and the sheer creepiness of John’s situation.
The twists and turns kept me in my seat, reading this one from cover to cover in one mesmerizing session. I recommend ECHO FROM A BAYOU to readers who enjoy tense thrillers with paranormal elements.
