In a post-apocalyptic nation where the land of the free is now run under a dictatorship, there is one factor that holds the key to keeping world order—love. The new Regime controls the emotions of the heart. It’s their most vital law.
At the age of twenty-one, every citizen is forced into an arranged marriage. The only way to escape the arrangement is to enter the Temptation Trials—a government-sponsored reality TV show where the loyalties of the contestants are tested by Tempters and Temptresses who are impossible to resist.
Catalina enters the Trials as a Temptress in hopes that she can win the funds to save her brother. Sahara’s been ridiculed in the eyes of the public. By being a Temptress, she’ll be able to have a fresh start. The Regime promises that if she fulfills her role on the show they will wipe her slate clean.
The problem is that the Trials are rigged for failure. In all the prior seasons, love’s rival, lust, has proven to be more powerful. No contestant has ever won the Temptation Trials and been allowed to stay with their chosen partner. Lutheran Eminence, the world’s dictator, has shown that he’s the ultimate matchmaker.
As the Temptation Ball approaches, conflict is at an all-time high. Most couples are too hurt by betrayal to reconcile. With the odds stacked against them, Kincade and Tobias try to mend their relationships, hoping that the greater good will prevail. Attempting to uncover the true meaning of love may cost the contestants more than they bargained for—it may cost their souls.

The intriguing premise and returning characters come
alive in this new audiobook version!
Temptation Trials Rebellion by B. Truly is an exciting and intriguing entry in the author’s continuing saga featuring this dystopian world and has several returning characters. The story was good and filled with action and bits and pieces of backstories from the previous books that I quickly added to my “To Be Read” shelf on Goodreads because this one was that compelling. Still, I feel it would have been better to read the earlier books before tackling this one for better comprehension and enjoyment.
The plot is packed with mystery, intrigue, political skullduggery, and sex; this book is not for the kiddies. The first half of the book focuses exclusively on the couples undergoing the Temptation Trials on the Hawaiian Islands. I liked all of the couples, and there are many, and the Enforcers completely creeped me out. The action is wild, and there are major surprises in store for readers (or listeners of the newly released audiobook) about what’s going on behind the scenes of this outrageous reality show. These revelations lead naturally to the change of focus during the book's second half on the political unrest at work in and the paranormal foundation underlying this dystopian world.
Two readers perform the audiobook edition of the book: Des M. Astor and William A. Cline, both of whom take care to imbue the different characters with distinctive voices, cadences, or deliveries to help listeners keep the many characters straight. Early on, I had difficulty getting used to Sahara’s delivery, which sometimes sounded almost slurred or half-awake, but I soon adapted to it and forgot any previous reservations.
I recommend TEMPTATION TRIALS REBELLION to fans of the
previous books in the series, especially those wanting to put a voice to the
characters they’ve been following all this time.
